Last week I had completed reading the latest and possibly last book of Harry Potter, the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
With each and every of the 7 books of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling had successfully lived up to all the hype and hoopla. So obviously when there was news about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I was eager to get my copy and read it. (Like all ,true blue HP fans, I too was eager to read even a single line about my favourite Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived!)
The story starts where the Deathly Hallows ends, near the 9-3/4 platform, where Harry is bidding farewell to his second child Albus Severus Potter, who is starting his school.
Like expected, Albus Potter gets sorted into Slytherin and guess who is his best buddy Scorpius Malfoy! It is also interesting to see Hermione as the Minister of Magic!
Is Scorpius Malfoy really the son of Draco Malfoy or is he the son of Lord Voldemort, as per some strong rumours?
Who is the cursed child ? Is it Albus Potter or Scorpius Malfoy?
If you had seen or read the third book or movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azakaban, you would have wondered why Harry Potter never used the Time Turner. Why Dumbledore never tried going into the past to save Harry’s parents or any unwanted deaths? At least ,thats what I felt when I saw the third movie.
We all know that Lord Voldemort chose Harry Potter as his enemy because of the Prophecy. But is it the only one or are there any more prophecies?
If you ever wondered on the those lines, well, your questions are answered in this book.
Coming to the format of the book. This one is written like a play.
At first , I absolutely rejected the idea of the Harry Potter book written as a play. But by the time I had reached the half mark of the book, I didn’t care about it.
What I missed most was J.K.Rowling mark comedy. ( The lack of comedy track may be because there are no Weasley twins in the book, who provided most of the laughs earlier. Even if Ron tries to make us laugh, it feels forced.)
Although Harry Potter and the Cursed Child added nothing new to the 7 book series, it brought a conclusion to all the innumerable doubts of the Potter fans. We get to see Harry as a father. Most of the focus in the book is on Albus Potter, Scorpius and Harry Potter.
If you love revisiting the world of Hogwarts with all its poly juice and love potions, Time turners , invisibility cloaks, spells and counter spells, then you will enjoy reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I did, though it took sometime getting used to the play format. In first couple of scenes , we get to see Albus Potter from being a newbie in Hogwarts to becoming a third year student.
My recommendation – Read it. You will love it.
1. My favourite part of the book is when Scorpius Malfoy meets Severus Snape. I only wish there were more scenes with Snape!
2. This time, the pic in the photo is my own. I used Mr.Bee’s Nimbus 2000 model and my Basilisk which we bought in the Universal Studios , Orlando.
